Ordination Exam and Service

Ministerial Alliance

Hello Fellow Laborer,

Hello Fellow Laborer,

It is an honor and a privilege to serve you on the road to ordination and further development as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The church has gone through many changes the last few years, but God has been faithful and never ceases to amaze me. I am grateful to God for sending laborers to help carry the burden of ministry and increase our capacity to do what he has called The Brook to do locally and abroad. I am confident that as we continue to move with the cloud, we will continue to have rain that waters the seed of the word of God and yields great harvests. It is with joy that I congratulate and welcome you to The Brook Ministerial Alliance. Below is everything you will need for your exam and the ordination service. Feel free to contact the church office if you have any questions or concerns.

Again, Congratulations!

I’m excited about your future,

Pastor Sim

Study Guide

What biblical character do you see yourself in?

Below are a few definitions for ministry in the Bible. You must be able to explain what ministry is by using the definitions below.

  1. διακονία diakŏnia, dee-ak-on-ee´-ah; from 1249; attendance (as a servant, etc.); fig. (eleemosynary) aid, (official) service (espec. of the Chr. teacher, or techn. of the diaconate):—(ad-) minister (-ing, -tration, -try), office, relief, service (-ing).
  1. διάκονος diakŏnŏs, dee-ak´-on-os; prob. from an obs. διάκω diakō (to run on errands; comp. 1377); an attendant, i.e. (gen.) a waiter (at table or in other menial duties); spec. a Chr. teacher and pastor (techn. a deacon or deaconess):—deacon, minister, servant.

In the NT διακονία means 1. “waiting at table,” or in a rather wider sense “provision for bodily sustenance.” Lk. 10:40. The supervision of the common meals in the early church is called ministry in Ac. 6:1.

1.Worship

Creating an environment where all people can have a genuine encounter with Jesus Christ.

John 4:23 (NKJV) 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

2.Word

Creating an environment where all people can experience life transformation through The Message of God’s Word.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) 15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

3.Witness

Creating an environment where everyone is capturing the heart of God for the people of our neighborhoods and the nations of the world. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)

Acts 1:8 (NKJV) But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

4.Work

Creating an environment where all people can discover their gifts and talents and use them to serve the purposes of God. (Ephesians 2:10, James 2:17)

Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

James 2:17 (NKJV) 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

Hebrews 5:1–4 (NKJV)

1For every high priest taken from among men is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins.

2He can have compassion on those who are ignorant and going astray, since he himself is also subject to weakness.

3Because of this he is required as for the people, so also for himself, to offer sacrifices for sins.

4And no man takes this honor to himself, but he who is called by God, just as Aaron was.

Minister’s Code of Ethics

As a minister of Jesus Christ, called by God to proclaim the gospel and gifted by the Spirit to serve the church, I dedicate myself to conduct my ministry according to the ethical guidelines and principles set forth in this code of ethics, in order that my ministry be acceptable to God, my service be beneficial to the Christian community, and my life be a witness to the world.

  1. I will maintain my physical and emotional health
  2. I will nurture my devotional life through a regular time of prayer, reading of the Scriptures, and meditation.
  3. I will continue to grow intellectually through personal study, comprehensive reading, and actively participating in opportunities for growth.
  4. I will manage my time well by properly balancing personal obligations, family responsibilities, and church duties.
  5. I will be honest and responsible with my finances by tithing to my local church, being intentional about paying all debts on time, never seeking special gratuities or privileges, giving generously to worthwhile causes, and living a Christian lifestyle.
  6. I will be truthful in my speech, never plagiarizing another’s work, exaggerating the facts, misusing personal experiences, or communicating gossip.
  7. I will seek to be Christlike in attitude and action toward all persons regardless of race, social class, religious beliefs, or position of influence within the church or community.
  1. I will be fair to every member of my family, giving them the time, love, and consideration they need.
  2. I will understand the unique role of my spouse, recognizing his or her primary responsibility is as marital partner and parent to the children, and secondarily as church worker and assistant to the pastor.
  3. I will regard my children as a gift from God and seek to meet their individual needs without imposing undue expectations upon them.
  1. I will seek to be a servant-minister of the church by following the example of Christ in faith, love, wisdom, courage, and integrity.
  2. In my ministerial duties, I will be impartial and fair to all members.
  3. When called to minister in word, I will give adequate time to prayer and preparation, so that my presentation will be biblically based, theologically correct, and clearly communicated.
  4. In my evangelistic responsibilities, I will seek to lead persons to salvation and partnership with The Brook without manipulating converts, proselytizing members of other churches, or demeaning other religious faiths.
  5. In my visitation and counseling practices, I will never be alone with a person of another sex unless another church member is present nearby.
  6. In leaving The Brook, I will seek to strengthen the church through proper timing, verbal affirmation, and an appropriate closure of my ministry.

When serving in an official capacity, representing The Brook, I will not consume alcohol, not engage in any risky behavior misconduct that could dishonor the name of the ministry or Christ.

  1. I will endeavor to relate to all ministers, especially those with whom I serve at The Brook, as partners in the work of God, respecting their ministry and cooperating with them.
  2. I will seek to serve my minister colleagues and their families with counsel, support, and personal assistance.
  3. I will refuse to treat other ministers as competition to gain a church, receive an honor, or achieve statistical success.
  4. I will refrain from speaking disparagingly about the person or work of any other minister, especially my predecessor or successor.
  5. I will not speak negatively about any ministry I formerly served.
  6. I will return to a former church field for professional services, such as weddings and funerals, only if approved by my lead pastors.
  7. I will be honest and kind in my recommendations of other ministers to church positions or other inquiries.
  8. If aware of serious misconduct by a minister, I will contact responsible officials (lead pastors or their appointee) and inform them of the incident.
  1. I will accept reasonable responsibilities for community service, recognizing the minister has a public ministry.
  2. I will engage with my community in such a manner that does not bring a reproach to my local church, personal ministry, nor misrepresents Jesus Christ.
  3. I will obey the laws of my government unless they require my disobedience to the law of God.
